What is FSSAI License Registration (FSSAI) ?

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) mandates all Food Businesses be registered or licensed in accordance with the procedure laid down in Food Safety & Standards Act, 2006.

The Act requires that all Food Business Operators i.e. persons engaged in the manufacture, processing, packaging, storage, transportation, distribution and sale of food products are required to obtain (depending on their business turnover) either a registration or a license with the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India.
As per Section 31(1) & 31(2) of FSS Act 2006 every Food Business Operator in the country is required to be licensed/registered under the Food Safety &Standards Authority of India. The licensing and registration procedure and requirements are regulated by Foor Safety & Standards.


FSSAI Licensing & Registration System

(FLRS) is a system launched by FSSAI to facilitated Food Business Operators (FBOs) in India to apply for Registration / License.

FLRS allows the FBOs to check their premises eligibility according to the location or the activity being conducted on that premise.


For all food-related businesses such as manufacturing, trading, restaurants, small eateries, grocery shops, importers, exporters, home-based food businesses, dairy farms, processors, it is mandatory to get on FSSAI license or FSSAI registration before commencing with the company this 14 digit FSSAI License number gives information about the producer’s permit.

what is the procedure for fssai license registration ?

There are four steps, including the FSSAI License registration procedure that are following:

Type of food license in FSSAI

1. FSSAI Basic Registration:
> Annual turnover less than Rs. 12 Lakhs are expected to do the FSSAI basic Registration.

> Small food manufacturers and people in the food business can get their license from the state Government .

2. FSSAI State License:
a. Annual turnover within Rs. 12 Lakhs to Rs. 20 Crores are needed to take FSSAI Licence.

  1. Small and medium business entities like food producers, transporters, marketers, retailers, and food processing units need to get a food license from the State Government.

(3) FSSAI Central License:
a. Annual turnover higher than Rs 20 Crore are needed to take the FSSAI License

  1. Large scale food units and business operators like export-oriented units, large manufacturers, importers, and food agencies who provide food in railways, airports or seaports, must get their food license from the central government.

FSSAI Basic Registration

> Form A – complete and signed
> Passport size Photo of applicant
> Aadhaar of Applicant
> PAN of Applicant.
> Proof of possession – Electricity bill or Rent Agreement
> Partnership Deed in case of a Firm.
> Certificate of Incorporation in case of a company
> The complete list of food items.
> The complete FSMS (Food Safety Management System) plan.

FSSAI Central & State Registration

1. Basic Documents:

> Form B- complete and signed
> Aadhaar & PAN of Proprietor or Partner or Director(s).
> Proof of Possession – electricity bill or Rent Agreement.
> Name and List of Equipment and Machinery along with their number, installed capacity.
> List of food category desired to be manufactured. (In case of manufacturers).
> Blueprint or layout plan of the processing unit
> Food Safety Management System plan or certificate (if any).
> Declaration and Undertaking by FBO
> A copy of certificate obtained under Co-Op Act 1861/Multi State Co-Op Act 2002 for Co-Operatives. (if applicable).
> Source of raw material for meat and meat processing plants. (if applicable).
> Pesticide residues report of water (for packaged drinking water business),
> NOCs from Municipality or local body. (optional)
> Authority letter with name and address of responsible person nominated
> Supporting document proof for turnover (if any)

2. Additional Documents:

The food and water analysis report to be used in food from a recognized health laboratory.
> Source of milk or acquisition plan for milk including the location of milk collection centres (in case of Milk and Milk Products processing).
> Sources of raw material for meat processing plants.
> Pesticide residues report of water if the production of the unit packaged drinking water, Mineral water and carbonated water from a known public health laboratory

List of Directors with full address and contact details.
> Memorandum & article of association of company
> Form IX: Nomination of Persons by a Company along with the Board Resolution

List of Partners with full address and contact details.
> Partnership Deed towards the constitution of the firm.

Certificate provided by the Ministry of Tourism
> Vehicle declaration

Certificate provided by the Ministry of Tourism (HRACC- Hotel & Restaurant Approval and Classification Committee).

What is form A and Form B in FSSAI

Form A: In FSSAI is a basic FSSAI registration that a small FBO must fill out if it has an annual turnover of less than 12 lakh.
Form B: For a State FSSAI license, form B is if the food unit’s turnover is less than Rs.20 crore and if the operation is only limited to the State. The Central FSSIA license form B is when the unit’s turnover that is more than Rs.20 crore.
